Poll results

In our most recent LinkedIn poll, B2BE asked the opinion of supply chain professionals how they would describe their current relationship with the Internet of Things, specifically as it relates to the management of their supply chains. The Internet of things (IoT) refers to devices with sensors and the programming to process data, software, and technologies connecting and exchanging data with other systems via the Internet or other networks. When applied to supply chains, IoT systems can help businesses to serve their trading partners better, while also saving the business costs and improving overall efficiency.

Internet of Things (IoT) and the supply chain: what we found

  • By far, the most popular option, with 42% of respondents, were those that said yes, IoT is a key part of their supply chain management.
  • With 25% of the received votes, were those that said not yet, but that they were interested in making IoT part of the supply chain.
  • Next, the joint-least popular option, with 17% of the votes, were those that responded by saying not yet, but that they were actively pursuing it.
  • Finally, also with 17%, were those that said no, they were not, and were not planning to use IoT as part of their supply chain.

These results are fairly encouraging as, although less than a majority, 42%, of respondents said that they were already using the Internet of Things as a key part of their supply chain management strategy, a clear majority, 83%, said that they were, at least interested in doing so, with 59% either using it already in their supply chain, or actively pursuing it.
